Event Rules and Terms and Conditions of Participation to Barclays MoonTrekker 2021

  1. Training Partner OR Virtual Buddy: For your safety we strongly recommend hiking/training/racing together with a second participant, especially for the trail section or overnight attempts. Participants must conduct their training together with at least one other participant OR with a ‘Virtual Buddy’. A virtual buddy is someone who monitors you during your training hikes and race attempts. They should be in regular touch, aware of your exact route, expected finish time for  each section. Participants must supply the phone contact details of their virtual race buddy. 

  2. Fitness, ability and equipment: This is a fully self supported event. Participants should hike within their own tested abilities and carefully plan their training sessions accordingly. They should bring the appropriate training supplies and equipment including (but not limited to), fully charged phone (in a waterproof container), printed map as well as a pre-downloaded map (as internet reception can be weak), sufficient water, lighting/backup lighting, food, personal medication, and appropriate hiking gear and clothing. You should not rely on our app maps/links for directions.

  3. Weather: Participants are responsible for checking the weather before and during any of your hiking activities. You should not attempt any hiking during inappropriate weather (including heavy rain, strong wind, typhoons, storms and lightning). Please respect this rule not just for your safety, but also for our event sustainability by adhering to the commitments we have made to gain approvals from the authorities to stage this event. 

  4. Race Start Time [5pm to 12am]: For the MoonTrekker Race, you must start in Mui Wo between 5pm to 12am. The MoonTrekker app will not accept a race starting time before 5pm. The training and challenges, you may start at any time.

  5. Route Directions: Participants are responsible for familiarizing themselves with the route in their training runs. The organizer accepts no responsibility for participants who do not follow the correct route. We strongly recommend practice runs before taking part in the race.

  6. Physical Injury: Participants accept taking part in the MoonTrekker race, training and challenges or related training hikes, have an inherent risk of injury. Organisers or affiliates of MoonTrekker Limited including its partners and sponsors accepts no responsibility whatsoever of participants including death or injury. All participants must ensure that they are physically fit to participate in the MoonTrekker training and MoonTrekker race and that they know no reason why it would be ill advisable for them to take part. By submitting his or her entry, each applicant agrees to obey and accept all the terms and conditions of participation. 

  7. Category Changes & Substitutions: Once registered, participants can only change their category (i.e. from a team to a pair, or a pair to a solo etc) or make substitutions until the 15th October. We will charge a HK$100 admin fee per person for any changes. Category changes will not be accepted after the 15th October.   8. Team Times: Your official time will be an average of all your participants race times. They do not have to race together. You will only receive an official time once everyone on your team has completed the race.

  9. Finishers Pack: Participants can collect their finishers pack after MoonTrekker21. Details will be listed on our website

  10. Fundraising: Participants are not required to raise money for our charity partner in 2021, however, we encourage each participant to raise a minimum of HK$500 via SimplyGiving. Additional payments can be made through other means.

  11. Refunds: Once registered, there will be no refunds issued for MoonTrekker 21.

  12.  Age: Participants must be 18 years old or above on from October 1st, 2021 (the first day of the virtual challenge). 

  13.  Photographs and Video Usage: Barclays MoonTrekker reserves the right to use any photographs or/and videos of participants taken by our event photographers of participants taking part in Barclays MoonTrekker 21 (challenge and race). This images maybe used (and not restricted to) on Barclays MoonTrekker promotional materials including (and not limited to) websites, newsletters or media releases. Images and videos may also be shared with third parties and event sponsors for their own promotional usage.

  14. Promotional Gifts We do not guarantee any availability of gifts at any time. They are available on a first come first served basis. There may be a lag within the challenges information displayed in terms of remaining gifts) or technical issues that provides misinformation on prize availability. Participants must be 18 years old or above on from October 1st, 2021 (the first day of the virtual challenge).

  15. QR Codes: If you cannot find them, or they are missing, you may take a photograph instead. This will log your GPS coordinates (for our verification). Please note and deliberate cheating may result in cancelation of your place and a ban from future events.
